HISTORY OF ROTARY CLUB OF EKO ATLANTIC

The most dynamic Rotary Club of District 9110, Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic was born on 14th of March 2019. District Governor 9110, 2018-2019, Rtn. Kola Sodipo assigned the responsibility of club extension and formation of a new club to PP Rtn Sanjeev Tandon by appointing him District Governor’s Special Representative/ New Club Adviser, on the 6th of Feb,2019. This responsibility is usually given to a person who possesses Rotary knowledge & experience in forming a new club. The first provisional meeting with 20 reputable professionals & business persons, was held at Pearl Café, Eko Atlantic, Lagos.

The first meeting was presided over by DGSR/ NCA Rtn Sanjeev Tandon with New Club Development Chair (Lagos), PAG Lanre Adedoyin as Chief Guest. Rtn Lanre read the letter from the District Governor for appointing Rtn Sanjeev Tandon as DGSR/ NCA and explained the procedure and requirements for the formation of a new club. During the first meeting DGSR / NCA Rtn Sanjeev Tandon proposed the name of Rtn Dr Sunit Deb Roy as Charter President , which was unanimously accepted

The Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic received its Charter from RI President in the shortest possible time on the 14th of March 2019.Thus was born a vibrant new club with 45 Charter Members (22 Female and 23 Male) from different nationalities , with age range spanning from 25 to 80 years!

Mega Projects have been undertaken by RCEA and 27 projects have been completed till Dec 2019, since the Charter on 14th March 2019, excluding support to the District for Cervical Cancer Project, RYLA, Zonal Meets, Polio Plus etc
Last but not the least, The RCEA has members from all age brackets – which is also a remarkable achievement in this short time of existence.

By Dec 2019, the strength of the club had grown to 63 Regular Members & 4 Honorary Members.

The Charter presentation ceremony was held on May 25 , 2019 at Spice Route, Victoria Island, Lagos
with representatives of Rotary fraternity and an elite cross section of society. The District Governor Kola Sodipo presented the Charter and installed Rtn. Dr Sunit Deb Roy as the Charter President.

 

DG Rtn. Kola hailed the Distt. Membership Chair, PDG Rtn.Otunba Bola Onabadejo; New Club Development Chair(Lagos), PAG Rtn. Lanre Adedoyin; New Club Adviser Rtn.Sanjeev Tandon, Zonal Extension/New Club Development Chair Rtn. Bayo Amosu, PDG Rtn.Kamoru Omotosho, Inspiration President Rtn.Adetoun Agbe-Davies and members of Rotary Club of Ikoyi on the formation of this new Club.

The investiture ceremony of United President Rtn Dr Sunit Debroy was held on 15th September 2019 with DG Dr. Jide Akeredolu as Chief Guest and PDG as Guest speaker Hon. Rtn. PDG Prince Julius Adewale Adelusi- Adeluyi, at Jade Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos

 

As on date, RCEA, with a strength of 48 , boasts of members of many different nationalities. The Club meets on Saturdays at 5.00pm at ATLANTIC HOTEL & SUITES, 20A, Musa Yaradua Street, off Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Change of baton from United President to Opportunity President Rtn Vinod Kaurani took place on the 11th of July 2020, at Spice Route, Victoria Island, Lagos. Though only a few members were present physically, most of the members witnessed it on a virtual platform.
